Govenor Gregg Abbot appears to be one of the few in the state of Texas that takes the mass crime assault on residents seriously. Despite many warnings, some areas are still pushing ahead with the use of Sanctuary City policies (even though some have renamed the policies as “welcoming cities”). But the Govenor has decided to act and it looks likely that his moves will be effective.
He is putting in place laws that will not only (at a Federal level) de-fund cities that do not cooperate with immigration enforcement officials, but in his State will seek to prosecute those responsible for releasing criminals and not assisting ICE. Due to Texas’ location, they tend to have higher rates of illegal migrants and with that comes higher crime rates.
“He specifically called out Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez, who has vowed to continue sanctuary policies and reduce cooperation with federal authorities on possible deportations of criminal aliens.
Abbott said Hernandez has released 50 criminal aliens from her jails this month, including one who was accused of sexually assaulting a child.”
If a Sheriff won’t protect the people who put her in office, then she shouldn’t be Sheriff. Protect your legal citizens first, your non-legal citizens second, and the ones who commit crimes against the first and second group: not at all. Recidivism rates among illegal criminal migrants is huge. Releasing them back into otherwise safe communities is a recipe for disaster.
Under a bill that has passed the Texas Senate, Abbott said that in addition to defunding cities that adopt “sanctuary” policies for illegal immigrants, public officials could be prosecuted. “If you have a public official, including a sheriff, who continues to adopt sanctuary city policies after this ban goes into place, they could be criminally prosecuted and themselves wind up in jail. The place they are releasing dangerous criminals from.”

According to Patriot Journal:
Abbott said Hernandez has released 50 criminal aliens from her jails this month, including one who was accused of sexually assaulting a child.
What bleeding heart liberals like Hernandez refuse to consider is that their actions have consequences on people who don’t enjoy their privileges.
As a county sheriff, Hernandez enjoys a level of personal security that the citizens whose taxes pay her generous salary do not.
Those criminals she sets free aren’t likely to attack her and her family; instead, the targets will be helpless Travis County residents who naively thought it was the role of local law enforcement to protect them from criminals — not release them into their midst.
It’s easy to be “generous” with other people’s money, and the same applies to “compassion.” The elites calling for sanctuary cities are never the ones who suffer when their policies turn fatal.
Governor Abbott is simply trying to restore law and order to his state. It is sad that he has to pressure sworn law enforcement leadership to join his endeavor.
