As a nation, there has rarely been a time when we have felt more divided from our fellow citizens. The Engine of Hate that is working overtime to divide down social, political and racial lines is trying newer and more shocking ways to make us hate our neighbors. But there is something that the purveyors of hate forget, and that is that Americans have throughout history shown that they can come together against all odds when we really need to.
During the Congressional baseball game, President Trump gave a moving and heartfelt speech that sought to bring us all together regardless of which side of the political spectrum we live on. And then, to throw out the first pitch was Capitol Police Officer, David Bailey, who took a bullet during the shootings.
This was the moment when division was removed. There were no calls from Black Lives Matter to remove a policeman from a political baseball game. There were no cries that one side was trying to out-politicize the other. This was just the recognition of one of America’s heroes and the dangers that they face ona daily basis. This was a time when we can all be proud of the noble institutions that protect Americans night after night.
We have in common with each other far more than divides us. And it seems fitting that many people should realise this at that most American of pasttimes: a good old fashioned baseball game.
The annual Congressional Baseball game aired on Thursday night in Washington. Trump didn’t show up, but he showed up in spirit. His daughter Ivanka Trump did show up. Watch what Trump said below. Then you NEED to see what happened at the beginning of the baseball game.
Now you got to see the amazing moment from the beginning of the game. Grab your tissues. David Bailey, one of the Capitol Hill police officers shot in the shooting, surprised the crowd and threw the opening pitch. He was even injured and stepped out and shocked the crowd.
Give it up for this hero.
Bailey was accompanied by baseball legend Joe Torre. Scalise is going into his third surgery since the shooting.
The most heartwarming first pitch I’ve ever seen – from injured hero Capitol police office David Bailey. https://twitter.com/abc7elex/status/875496537966628864 …
God bless this country. We need to come together. Share, share, share this everywhere and say a prayer for our country to come together! What a heroic moment to watch that hero throw that pitch.
